Vaccinations for your child
Vaccinations protect your child against serious infectious diseases. In Flanders, the vaccines in the routine schedule are free. Your child can get them at Kind en Gezin (the Flemish child and family agency), at school via the CLB (pupil guidance centre), from the GP (huisarts) or from me.

Which diseases is my child vaccinated against?
The Flemish routine vaccination schedule protects against polio, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, Haemophilus influenzae type b, hepatitis B, pneumococcus, measles, mumps, rubella (German measles), meningococcus and human papillomavirus (HPV). Only the polio vaccination is required by law, but all vaccines in the schedule are strongly recommended.
What does a vaccination at the paediatrician cost?
The vaccines in the routine schedule are free: I order them for your child through the Flemish government. You only pay for the consultation. If you buy a vaccine yourself at the pharmacy, it is not paid for by the Flemish government.
Where can my child be vaccinated?
- at Kind en Gezin, for children under 3 years
- at school, via the CLB
- at the GP
- at the paediatrician
The choice is yours. You can have your child vaccinated by me, for example if you are coming for a consultation anyway or if your child needs a special schedule.
Where are my child's vaccinations recorded?
Every vaccination is registered in Vaccinnet (the Flemish vaccination database). Via My Health Viewer you can view your child's vaccinations yourself. In addition, bring the Kind en Gezin booklet or the vaccination card.
My child was vaccinated abroad. What now?
Bring the vaccination record from your home country. I check which vaccines your child has already had and which they still need according to the Flemish schedule. Missing vaccines are caught up. I also speak English and Croatian.
Can my child be vaccinated with a cold?
An ordinary cold without fever is usually no reason to postpone. If your child has a high fever or is really ill, we postpone the vaccination for a while. If in doubt, we discuss it during the consultation.
How do I make an appointment for a vaccination?
You can book online or by phone. Bring the Kind en Gezin booklet or the vaccination card.
