New patients and international families
New patients are welcome, without a waiting list. I see children in English, Dutch and Croatian. Below you can read how to book a first appointment, what to bring and how paediatric care works in Belgium, especially if you have just moved here.
The consultation is in Dutch. You are welcome to bring someone who can translate for you.
Are you taking on new patients?
Yes. My practice at Medpoint Genk (Sledderlo) opened in September 2026 and there is no waiting list. I see babies, children and teenagers, including families who have just arrived in Belgium.
Do you speak English?
Yes. Consultations are possible in English, Dutch and Croatian. I trained in Zagreb and worked for many years in Croatia, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland before coming to Belgium, so I am used to working with families from many countries.
How do I book a first appointment?
Book online via Doctoranytime or call 011 12 39 75. I see patients on Monday and Wednesday, by appointment only.
Do I need a referral from a GP?
No. In Belgium you can book directly with a paediatrician. If your GP or a doctor from Kind en Gezin has given you a letter, please bring it along.
How does child healthcare work in Belgium?
- Kind en Gezin (part of the Flemish agency Opgroeien) offers free preventive check-ups and vaccinations for children under 3 at local consultation centres.
- Your GP (huisarts) is the first point of contact for the whole family.
- A paediatrician (kinderarts) sees children for illness, follow-up of growth and development, and conditions such as asthma, allergies or eczema. You can book directly.
- At school, the CLB (pupil guidance centre) takes over preventive check-ups and many vaccinations.
What should I bring to the first consultation?
- your child's ID or Kids-ID, if you have one
- the Kind en Gezin booklet, or the vaccination record and growth chart from your home country
- any medication your child takes
- medical reports or discharge letters, even if they are in another language
- your health insurance details
Do I need Belgian health insurance?
Every resident in Belgium must join a health insurance fund (ziekenfonds or mutualiteit). Once your child is registered, part of the consultation fee is reimbursed. Until then, you pay the full fee and can usually claim it later. Ask your employer or the fund of your choice how to register.
What does a consultation cost?
I am partially conventioned (partieel geconventioneerd). This means I do not charge the official RIZIV/INAMI rate for every consultation. Ask about the price when you book.
Can my child be vaccinated with you?
Yes. Children who started their vaccinations abroad can catch up according to the Flemish vaccination schedule. Bring the vaccination record from your home country. The vaccines are provided free of charge by the Flemish government; you only pay the consultation.
